TDK History
Tau Delta Kappa had its beginning as the Clarkson Chapter of Triangle Fraternity. The fraternity at Clarkson had its inception at the Cornell chapter of Triangle in 1955 in the mind of David Bulman. Following an initial rushing program and a series of meetings, the constitution was approved, elections were held, and group social functions scheduled. Emphasis was placed on rushing high caliber men, embarking on a high caliber program of campus activities and developing true fellowship. In October of 1956, the council on student activities approved the constitutions and officially recognized the fraternity. Throughout most of the our affiliation with Triangle National, The Clarkson Chapter proved itself as both a maverick and progressive force within the national organization. Due to our remote location, and peculiar circumstances at Clarkson, our chapter had not always been in accordance with the national over certain matters. Throughout the 1969-70 school year, discussion centered around our national affiliation with Triangle, and our chapter’s special needs. The organization wished to better its living conditions and discontinue the Triangle rule of admitting only engineers to membership. In the winter of 1970, the active organization voted to sever its ties with Triangle fraternity and become independent. The name Tau Delta Kappa was then decided upon, and the decision to build the new addition was made. Officially on April 18, 1970 our fraternity severed its ties with Triangle , and thus Tau Delta Kappa was borne.
